TELEIOS Press Release

A consortium of 5 European Universities and Research Institutes and one Italian company are building a virtual observatory that will be able to interpret satellite images and combine them with geographical information to aid decision making in environmental disasters such as fires or floods. Each day, satellites send huge amounts of data to Earth: up to thousands of gigabytes, too many to be processed by human beings. A virtual observatory - a cleverly designed, powerful information system - can do this.
